Hello, I'm Sara
Project lead. Parent. An expatriate based in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years back, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter living abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Portugal wasn't in our long-range plan. Like many expat relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The early months were intense — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complicated than they should.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built SmoothFieldCraft
Most online information leaned toward corporate relocation advice or surface-level tourism content. What was missing was honest, everyday family insight.
This site exists to fill that gap — practical guidance drawn from real-life experiences in Portugal.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on experience gained from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated only when a real change occurs
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Nor a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Portugal goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Cheers,
Sara
